The global thematic evaluation of the Commission's support to good governance in third countries has been recently completed. The evaluation is based on case studies concerning Angola, Burkina Faso, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Jordan, Indonesia and Ukraine.

Brussels, 29 June 2006 - The Commission has adopted a proposal for a self-standing financing instrument to promote democracy and human rights worldwide. The new instrument is to replace the present external assistance scheme (European Initiative for Democracy and Human Rights – EIDHR), which will run out by the end of the year.
