The global thematic evaluation of the Commission's support to good governance in third countries has been recently completed. The evaluation is based on case studies concerning Angola, Burkina Faso, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Jordan, Indonesia and Ukraine.

18 july 2006 - Václav Havel, former president of the Czech Republic, has thrown his weight behind the push for a European democracy foundation which could, he argues, "add value" to European Union democracy assistance efforts. "The EU should not try to teach the world about democracy," says Havel, "but help it flourish." He secured European Commission president Jose Manuel Barroso's endorsement for the proposal.

Brussels -31 May 2006 Václav Havel, former president of Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic, has supported a proposal for a European Democracy Foundation at a meeting at the Prague House in Brussels on May 30.
